Why Silage?

Despite India being the largest milk producer in the world, India's per cattle production of milk ranks lower than the world average. Poor nutrition and lack of proper feed management are few reasons for low milk yield. Non-availability of green fodder during summers and reliable production in monsoon are the biggest challenges today. Silage is one such green fodder supplements which address these challenges.

Silage is a fermented, high-moisture, stored green fodder which can be fed to cattle, sheep and other ruminants or can be used as a biofuel feedstock for anaerobic digesters. It doesn't contain any synthetic additives or chemicals. Silage also helps to reduce the volume of feed as it is highly compressed, thereby decreasing the overall cost of feed along with meeting the nutritional requirement.

Impact of Silage on yield of milk

Milk yield during conventional dry fodder usage

Milk yield immediately after switching to silage

CornvitaTM has an ideal balance of proteins, carbohydrates and several amino-acids. Since silage is pre-digested food, cattle do not find it necessary to ruminate, as a result of which ease of digestion increases, thereby improving the overall health of gut of cattle. As proteins now can easily get digested and metabolised, the quantity of milk improves along with increase in fat and SNF percentages.

Feeding table of Silage

Note : Cattle may take some time, ideally 3–5 days to adapt to silage feeding. Initially one can start with 5 – 7Kgs of silage mixed along with conventional fodder. Once the cattle adapts, one can completely shift the feeding system to silage.
